Problem
It Can be Difficult Finding the Perfect Movie to Watch
I wouldn’t be the first to describe myself as a movie snob, but if it was said about me I would not be surprised. There is nothing wrong with the next blockbuster hit, but sometimes I want to find the next best art house film! Something I became aware of once I started going back to the movies recently is it has become increasingly harder to find the movies I enjoy. I came to find out it wasn’t just me, lots of people either don’t have the time to look movies up or don’t know where to start.
"How can we make the overall experience of finding movies to watch more enjoyable for moviegoers?”
Solution
Let’s Make it Personal
Let the user’s profile and data formulate what they see
Allowing users to do this through movie trailers creates quick likes ❤ and dislikes 👎. Think YouTube.
Put new movie trailers front and center that fit previous trailers the user enjoyed
This lets the user have to do minimal work to find the next best film for them
Bingeable trailer watching
Watch as many movie trailers as you want.
Share movies within and outside of the app with friends.
Share your thoughts on the trailers you like with other users
Keep your friends close
Add friends and send messages within the app.
Share your favorite movie trailers.
When you are finally ready for that group movie date, pay it forward and invite your friends
Click the image to be taken to the case study slide presentation
When you finally decide on your next favorite movie book the ticket directly in the app
Research
What do the veterans bring to the table?
When I started the research process I was fully aware there were some big names in the movie app game. The idea was to see what these apps did well for users and pinpoint areas of improvement based on user feedback. I am a user of the AMC theater app, which already gave me a few ideas of things that would be great additions but also areas that could be tweaked. After doing a deep dive I landed on four apps to use in the comparison research, AMC, Fandango, IMBD, and to some degree YouTube.
